Hands down, my favorite Sichuan spot in the 626! Their Signature Cold Pot Fish is an absolute must-try. The broth is perfectly rich, spicy, and packed with that signature numbing kick that Sichuan cuisine is known for. I was literally sweating while eating it—but in the best way possible! Every bite was an explosion of bold flavors. Pro tip: Come during their lunch promo for an amazing deal and the same incredible quality.
Sichuan food has a special place in my heart, especially the dishes with the numbing peppercorns, and Erwa Cold Pot Fish in San Gabriel, California, brings the heat in its namesake dish contrary to the name of how it is served Without an open flame at our table, we still enjoyed an incredibly hot (in temperature and spice) and so flavorful Spicy Cold Pot Fish. The marinated shredded Pig Ears are a must order for me, and @erwacoldpotfish’s version here may have been my favorite of the meal and quite possibly the best Pig Ears I’ve ever had If you are a big fan of duck, I highly recommend their BBQ Duck Stew. We recently stopped by during a visit to LA for lunch. On weekdays they have this deal that feeds 2 people for only $36.99 so we had to try it. You get a hot pot and a side to share and the portions are huge! Of course we had to order double portions though since we live far and wanted lunch the next day We tried: Golden Beef Pot + Cold Jelly Noodles Fish in Spicy Pickle Broth w/ Cold Noodles w/ Shredded Chicken We have no idea why they call it cold pot. The pots come out piping hot and delicious. The beef pot was just loaded with thinly sliced tender beef and tofu. The fish pot had so much buttery white fish in this slightly sour, subtly spicy tingly broth that we couldn't get enough of. The different cold noodles on the side were the perfect contrast. At the end they brought us a cold jelly dessert with dried fruits that was the perfect way to cool off. We already want to go back for more!
My husband and I grew up on Asian cuisine, and we absolutely love it. Today we were lucky enough to visit Erwa Cold Pot Fish, an authentic Sichuan eatery. They picked some of their famous dishes for us: roasted duck and cold pot fish, plus rice and beaten cucumbers. Pure bliss! The flavor is truly authentic — not an Americanized version, but the real deal! Highly recommended. The interior adds so much vibe, and the staff is incredibly nice.
To my surprise, the fish was actually hot and not cold. I went to my good friend, Google, and learned that it’s called “cold pot” because the fish is fully cooked in the kitchen and then served in a pot, where it’s left to cool slightly; whereas in hotpot, the food is cooked at the table. I don’t have Sichuan food often but everyone at my table enjoyed it, including me, so I know it was good. I loved the numbing spice from the broth and peppercorns but I needed rice to offset the spice a bit. We chose the blackened fish fillet with a medium spice level, which I don’t regret, but if you’re weak with spice I would lower it a bit. I balanced all the spice by eating the spicy and sour golden soup, a dish that was much milder and comforting. It wasn’t spicy at all but there was a bit of tanginess and a generous amount of beef belly. The hot and sour jelly noodle was alright since it wasn’t as chewy as I would have liked. The chopped cucumber in garlic sauce is a good side dish since it also functions as a palette cleanser. Overall, the service was great and the food came out relatively quickly. There’s a lot of booths and tables so this place seems like it’s great for groups.

In addition to the lunch special, we ordered the Roasted Duck Chengdu Style for $38.99. While not part of the lunch deal, it was still well worth the price! The duck was incredibly tender, and the portion was huge! The soup itself had a deep, rich flavor, and the tender duck really stood out. Both the Fish Pot and the Roasted Duck were not too spicy, which I was relieved about, as I was worried they’d be overwhelming. The spice level was just perfect—enough to enhance the flavors without taking over the dish. I also really enjoyed the refreshing cucumber side. It added a cool, crisp element that balanced out all the richness of the other dishes. The ambience at Erwa Cold Pot Fish is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room to relax and enjoy your meal. Whether you're dining solo or with a group, it's a great spot for a casual meal. Overall, this place offers an excellent value for the quality of food and the portion sizes. Highly recommend Erwa Cold Pot Fish if you're looking for delicious, flavorful dishes at a great price. The restaurant is well apportioned and has enjoyable decorations. The service was attentive and kind. We never went without a need or desire. This restaurant is a hidden gem in with some delicious and different dishes! 二娃冷鍋魚 is where traditional Chinese culinary craftsmanship meets innovative flavors. You are sure to find a few things on the menu you must have a me some you wanna try! While the name is “cold fish” no cold fish is served, rather it is a style where the food is prepared in a pot in the kitchen and slightly cools as it is brought to the table as opposed to hot pot. Super fresh and flavorful! Their spicy Champagne Fish is amazing. The Tomato Beef & Tofu Pot is rich and comforting, and the Sichuan cold noodles are authentic and delicious. Great portions, great flavors. Highly recommend!
